Espresso Martinez
Socorro Tequila really does make everything better
THE SPIRIT BEHIND IT
Espresso, vodka, coffee liqueur, and sugar. That’s the classic Espresso Martini recipe, invented in late 1980s London by bartender Dick Bardsell who, a liquid lore goes, was asked by a supermodel to concoct a drink that would “wake her up, then eff her up.” The Martinez version is a recent invention, substituting vodka for Blanco Tequila. Our recipe adds welcomed agave notes.
INGREDIENTS
- 1.5 oz Socorro Reposado
- 1 espresso shot
- 1 oz coffee liqueur
- 0.5 oz agave nectar
- Orange zest and coffee beans (garnish)
HOW TO MAKE IT
- Fill a shaker with ice and add all ingredients.
- Shake for 20 seconds.
- Strain into a coupe glass.
- Garnish with orange zest and coffee beans.
Taste it. Adjust. Make it yours.

Pablo’s Tip
Substitute agave nectar with Jalisco Liqueur for a more orange-forward version.

Socorro Reposado
Socorro Tequila Reposado is crafted in the Highlands of Jalisco from 100% Blue Weber agave, slow-cooked in traditional brick ovens and rested for four months in American oak barrels to develop a smooth, balanced character with subtle notes of vanilla and oak, ideal for sipping or elevated cocktails.
